Launched as a continuation of Root’s commitment to peace and cultural dialogue, Spirit of Peace Volume II was born from the momentum of Pesimo’s residency and mural in 2022. This digital group exhibition Curated by Pınar Goodstone, held in August 2022, asked a vital question: “How do we manifest peace?” Amidst global uncertainty and upheaval, the exhibition brought together artists from around the world to envision a world beyond borders—one shaped by empathy, justice, and imagination.
Featuring multidisciplinary works by Nancy Jo Ward, Eda Zamanpur, Anıl “Ayna” Taşezen, Nelten Wolde, Elen Deliss, Bradford Graves, H. Spencer Young, and Tinuade Oyelowo, the show spanned painting, photography, collage, video, installation, and NFT. Standout works included Black Lips by Tinuade Oyelowo, exploring gaze, gender, and power; Lost Symbols of the Techno Tribe by H. Spencer Young, a reflection on the oversaturation of images in the digital age; Childhood, Interrupted by Eda Zamanpur, an emotional video collage of childhood photos reimagined through the trauma of war; Kiss of Peace by Anıl “Ayna” Taşezen, a graffiti-inspired commentary on forgiveness and coexistence; Abstract Landscapes by Nelten Wolde, poetic digital collages rooted in pilgrim walks and nature; Cosmic Portraits by Elen Deliss, vibrant multimedia works exploring geometry, color psychology, and energy; Digital Gaze by Nancy Jo Ward, fictional AI-generated portraits interrogating beauty and identity; and Limestone Dialogues by the late Bradford Graves, sculptural works steeped in archaeology and philosophical reflection.
Each piece reflected on identity, conflict, and hope, inviting viewers to consider peace not just as a concept, but as an artistic and political act. Proceeds from the exhibition were donated to the Umut Foundation in support of disarmament and peacebuilding efforts.
