In January 2025, legendary New York graffiti artist Aaron “Sharp” Goodstone joined Sub Hotel as an artist-in-residence, creating three original canvas works exclusively for the hotel—two of which now hang in the lobby of Sub, and one at Root Karaköy. Known for his distinctive style, Abstract Techno Symbolism, Sharp fuses alphabetic forms, ancient glyphs, and cosmic imagery into a visual language that is both futuristic and ancestral. His work connects the intensity of 1980s New York street art with philosophical, urban poetics.
Sharp’s influence on graffiti is monumental. Featured in the Museum of Modern Art, Museum of the City of New York, and numerous international collections, his pieces are part of a global art legacy. Born in late 60’s he emerged in the transformative cultural energy of the 1980s alongside movements like Neo-Expressionism and artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. His style echoes that era's urgency and rebellion—melding hip hop, techno, and street consciousness into layered compositions.
At Sub, his canvases act as visual time portals—offering guests a chance to experience the pulse of 1980s NYC without leaving Karaköy. They are more than decorative—they’re declarations. Sharp’s art speaks to resilience, rhythm, and identity. In a lounge where cultures cross and subcultures thrive, his presence is a reminder that graffiti isn't just urban flair—it’s language, lineage, and living memory.
