Root Karaköy

Root Hotel Group’s first hotel Root Redrock Yalikavak opened in in 2019 in Bodrum, Turkey. A pioneer in the hospitality sector, Root Yalikavak organized the first music and art therapy sessions incorporated to their services, opened a pop-up art gallery and facilitated a series of art workshops at their resort.  Root Hotel Group carried this tradition of merging art with hospitality into the concept of their urban hotel Root Karakoy, which opened in 2021 in Istanbul, under the motto “Art- Culture-Community”. Root Karakoy is proud to be invited by Istanbul Modern Art Museum as their only official sponsor hotel. The hotel is designed by the award-winning architect Sami Savatli and the installation art at its entrance is created by Tamer Nakisci. 

Root Art champions women’s, LGQBT and disability rights and explores racial and environmental issues, social structures and pressing social concerns. In May 2022, Root Art’s journey started with Peruvian graffiti artist Pesimo painting the façade of Root Karakoy. Next, Turkish graffiti artist Leon Lunatic painted the façade of Root Karakoy’s sister Michelin Star hotel, Sub Karakoy. In the fall of 2022, curated by Pinar Goodstone Root Karakoy hosted a digital NFT exhibition titled, “Spirit of Peace Volume II”, followed by solo exhibition ‘’Gaze‘’ of Turkish painter Nilgun Gumus whose work concentrates on questions of womanhood. The philosophy of Root Art is deeply invested in the belief that artists see the future; affording a glimpse into what is possible or yet to come.

At Root Art, we are dedicated to facilitating artistic and cultural experiences relevant to our community. When art prevails, welfare is abundant, and violence lessens.  Karakoy is a unique district in Istanbul dating back to the Byzantine Empire. Our Mission

Karaköy, home to a prominent segment of Istanbul’s cultural and artistic sites, is an indispensable destination for both tourists and the city’s residents. In collaboration with award-winning installation artist Tamer Nakışçı and award-winning architect Sami Savatlı, Root Karaköy has created an art hotel that is true to the roots of the neighborhood, while offering the highest level of guest satisfaction and environmental consciousness. Since our launch in April 2021, we have been committed to providing consistently superior service quality and guest satisfaction.

Location

Centrally located across from the Historic Peninsula with a panoramic view of the Golden Horn and the Bosphorus, Root Karakoy is close to the Galata Bridge, and only a short walk to Galata Tower.
